Driving Range

We have recently placed a board with distances to each colored flag on the driving range.  This should help with training ones self with different distances.  The distances are measured from the spot of the board to each colored flag.

Number 8 Hogan

The number eight white tee sees a lot of action any given week.  Recently we moved the white tee markers to the forward tee locations to give this area a break.  On Monday, we also reseeded the tee area and top dressed it with an organic compost mix to promote seed growth and recovery.

Nursery

Today, we resoded our nursery with new tifeagle hybrid bermudagrass.  We first killed everything that was there with roundup. Second, we cut away what was needed to be removed. We then tilled everything in with a couple yards of new white sand added to the mix, then today, we resoded it.  We will have a perrenial ryegrass collar/border around it to protect the new tifeagle from 419 encroachment.

Overseed driving range tee

This morning we started overseeding the driving range tee.  The driving range will be mats only for the next few weeks to allow proper germination. Pictured below is Jose Flores, Odilon Hernandez, Guadalupe Martinez, and Fernando Guitierrez making their first passes on the driving range tee with the drop seeder.

#3 Hogan

As we gear up for our Member/Guest Tournament, we've been staying as busy as ever trying to improve as many areas on the golf courses as we can.  To the left of number three green on the Hogan we had an area where native rock to TCCC was incorporated to improve an area beaten down by cart traffic.  The rocks looked good but to add better definition to this area we cleaned out the weeds and the rock and replaced it with a layer of mulch.

Overseeding target greens

We overseeded the target greens at the driving range today.  We first dropped seed on the target greens then spiked and watered in the seed.  For the next few days, sprinkler heads will be coming on a few times a day to help grow in overseed.

Below, Jose Flores and Jose Aguilar are seeding a target green using a drop spreader.
We then had Odilon spike the seed into the target greens.
Here is an up lose view of the overseeded area after spiking in.
We then watered in each green for ten minutes.
We should see germination taking place within the next couple of weeks.

Big Putting Green.

We've aerified the big putting green with half inch tines this week and are now starting to walk mow the green with the mindset of opening it back up in the next week.
Here is Daniel mowing the green at .190".  Tomorrow we will lower the height to .180" with hopes of continuing to gradually lower the height of cut to facilitate opening it back up in the next week.

Eagles nest

We've taken away the mud and grass away from the corner area at the eagles nest in front of the ladies restroom and added gravel, rock, and a few small mexican feather grasses.  We are hoping this will help this area drain better after a rain storm.

Cart traffic

Cart traffic is starting to show greatly around both golf courses.  Moving forward we will begin implementing a plan to limit traffic as much as possible.  Starting today, number 9 on the Whitworth will be roped off and cart path only for the next couple of weeks.  We will add more holes as more rope and stake comes in.  We will rotate holes roped off throughout the summer.

First tees.

The first tee boxes on the hogan and the Whitworth were aerified today.  Today we aerified, topdressed, fertilized, then watered in the white tee box on Whitworth and the white and blue tee box on Hogan.
Aerifying these tee boxes will help the turf plant a great deal.   Aerification helps with compaction and traffic that these tees experience.  We will continue to aerify these tee boxes more in the future to increase the overall health of the turf plant.

New drainage added

New drainage has been added behind number 4 green of the Hogan, just to the right of the back tees on number 5 of the Hogan.  This drainage will improve this always soaked area and our guys did a good job of getting it done today.

Clocks Update

We recently have completed intalling all the back 9 clocks. The new Clocks/Satellites will give us more control over how we irrigate the Hogan back 9.  The irrigation will now be controlled through the central irrigation computer located at our shop.  Here we will have the ability to monitor each individual station that waters, monitor our output in gallons each night, and monitor what's running and what isn't.
Below are photos of the process that took place.

All hydraulic cables are hooked up.
The new Clock/Satelitte is ready to go.

New wall around 5 Hogan Lake

Work is about to begin on the new retaining wall going around the lake on number five Hogan.  This work is going to be a part of the Town of Trophy Clubs master plan for drainage improvement and once work is complete, the wall will improve the overall look of this area on the golf course.  You might notice some stakes around the lake and even inside the bunker in front of the green on number five, no need to worry as this is not where the actual wall will be placed.  We are working with the Town on where the wall will be exactly and it will not take away from the golf experience at all.
More updates to follow.

New Clocks

We have started work on upgrading our clocks on the back 9 of the Hogan.  Below are some pictures of the work that has taken place so far.

Camerino digging the hole for the new foundation.
Setting the frame for the new foundation with pipe leading to inside of new clock for hydraulic tubes (center pipe) and power (2 smaller pipes).
Poured concrete into frame.

As we continue this project, more photos and updates will be added later.

Freezing temperatures are headed our direction so we've decided to try and stay ahead of the weather by tarping the greens.  We will start tarping the Hogan greens today and will tarp the Whitworth greens tomorrow.

Spraying Weeds

Today we are spraying the weeds next to our overseeded tees and in front of the driving range tee.  The mixture being sprayed is a combination of selective cool season herbicide for residual control and a non-selective herbicide for a quick burn.  Pictured below is Fernando Spraying in front of the driving range team.
